Affiliated Organisations
INQUA has affiliations with several international scientific unions/organisations and supports different international initiatives.
International Science Council
INQUA is a full member of the International Science Council (ISC).
GeoUnions
INQUA is a member of the ISC-GeoUnions network, which includes representatives of international scientific unions dealing with Earth and space sciences. One initiative is the ISC Distinguished Lecture Series: “Basic Sciences For Sustainable Development.”

Standing Committee for Gender Equality in Science (SCGES)
INQUA supports the initiatives of the SCGES, one of the outcomes of the ISC funded ‘Gender Gap in Science Project’ and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the SCGES. INQUA actively participated in the SCGES Program The proposed INQUA Code of Conduct is one of the outcomes of the discussion at the meeting in Paris (February 2023).
IUGS Geoheritage sites
The Commission on Geoheritage (ICG) of the International Union of Geological Sciences launched a successful initiative to identify and recognise iconic geologic sites. The First 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites has been published in 2022, the Second 100 Geoheritage sites book in 2024. INQUA supports the project, coordinates the submission of Quaternary sites, and takes part in selecting the submitted Quaternary Geoheritage site proposals.
Past Global Changes (PAGES)
PAGES and INQUA have a good relationship that has resulted in the joint support of ECR conferences with participants from the PAGES and the INQUA community. The first joint INQUA-PAGES conference took place in 2018; the second PAGES-INQUA ECR conference (Past Socio-Environmental Systems – PASES), scheduled for 2020, could finally take place at La Serena (Chili) in November 2022. In November 2024, the 3rd INQUA-PAGES ECR workshop TROPQUA 2024, took place in Goa, India.
The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR)
INQUA is one of the Union Members of SCAR.
SCAR’s membership comprises ISC-affiliated national scientific academies or research councils (or the organisation designated by the national ISC representative body) of countries active in Antarctic research, together with the relevant ISC Scientific Unions.
The International Decade of Sustainable Development (IDSSD)
The International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024-2033) (IDSSD) (https://www.iybssd2022.org) is developed based on themes identified as priorities by UNESCO and the United Nations. INQUA is one of the organisations that signed a MoU and (financially) supports the initiative. INQUA actively participated and contributed to IDSSD program.
The International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS)
INQUA is, together with the IUBS, one of the partners of the ISC project Teaching Resources to Integrate Climate Topics Across The Curricula, Across the Globe.
INQUA and the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) have decided to organize a workshop for young scientists from both organizations to study recent and historical changes in biodiversity.
International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG/AIG)
The INQUA–IAG Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizes the collaboration between the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) and the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG). Through this partnership, designed to strengthen scientific exchange and joint initiatives, both organizations aim to support early-career researchers, co-organize scientific events, and advance global understanding of geomorphological and Quaternary processes.
