INQUA-PAGES ECR conference: Impacts of sea-level rise from past to future (iSLR18)

INQUA and PAGES will conduct a four-day conference for early-career researchers, titled "Impacts of sea-level rise from past to future (iSLR18)", in Utrecht, The Netherlands, from 26-29 August 2018.

The conference aims to facilitate scientific exchange between ECRs from a broad range of disciplines who work on past sea-level reconstructions, future projections of sea-level change, drivers of sea-level change, impacts of sea-level change on past submerged landscapes and present coastal systems, and mitigation strategies that ensure the viability of ecosystems and populated areas.

The conference will include two days of oral and poster presentations by ECRs, invited keynote lectures, a one-day field excursion to the Rhine delta and Holland coastal plain with conference dinner, and a public 'Science and Society' evening session.

For this conference, the definition of an early-career researcher (ECR) who have obtained or expect to obtain their PhD in 2010 or later. The workshop will be limited to 75 participants.



TENTATIVE PROGRAMME

Day 1, 26 August: Arrival of the participants and ice-breaker.

Day 2, 27 August: Keynote lectures, ECR orals and posters, discussion session, campus dinner, 'Science and Society' public session.

Day 3, 28 August: Bus excursion to Delta and Coast, conference dinner.

Day 4, 29 August: Keynote lectures, ECR orals and posters, closing discussion and departure from Utrecht.

CONFERENCE FEES:

Conference + hostel shared room accommodation: 250 Euro

Conference only (book own accommodation):           170 Euro

Conference fees include the conference and field trip, coffee breaks, lunches, ice-breaker, public event, dinner on Monday and conference dinner on Tuesday. Participation in both the field trip and public event are mandatory.

There are 50 beds pre-booked in shared-room hostel accommodation in the city centre of Utrecht. During the registration process, participants have the option to opt in for this accommodation, which will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you prefer to book accommodation yourself, be aware that August is a busy time for tourists, so make sure to book in time.


FINANCIAL SUPPORT

There will be financial support/grants available for registration and/or travel for ECRs, especially those from low-GDP per capita countries. Pre-register your interest as early as possible. Decisions on grants are scheduled for May 2018.
